It cannot be denied that the Kindle DX is considered the most advanced e-reader that caters to e-books as well as other PDF files just like journals and other academic files. If you intend to know more about this electronic device then you should definitely take your time in reading my Kindle DX Review. Hopefully, you will get useful information that will help you decide whether or not you should buy this e-book reader or not…
Kindle DX Review: The Ultimate E-Reader?
There are several factors that you need to consider before purchasing this device. In this review, I will talk about the good and bad points! You will be able to note some disadvantages like the lack of note-taking features as well as the lack of features that can help you with organizing PDF files. The good thing about the Kindle DX, though, would be that it actually provides great ease as well as a pleasurable reading experience for its user.
All in all, the device is simply a bigger, more storing, and more expensive version of the wildly popular Kindle E-Book Readers. The interface, the simple process of wirelessly downloading books, and the content you can get on the device (books, magazines, newspapers) are all the same as the Kindle 3. The main and most attractive difference is the larger screen. The DX’s extra-large electronic-ink screen makes reading magazines and textbooks easier.
The device itself measures 10.4 by 7.2 by 0.38 inches (HWD), and it feels incredibly thin when you hold it in your hand despite being a bit thicker than the Kindle 3 which is 0.36 inch deep. It weighs 18.9 ounces—about the same heft as a spiral notebook. Two small slits on the left side of the device are used to attach a protective case which must be purchased separately.
The size of the device is ideal for reading PDF files like books and academic papers. The screen size of the DX e-reader measures about 9.7 inches. Trust me, when I say that this is really huge and you won´t need to pull out your magnifier to read the words icon smile Kindle DX Graphite My Official Review! Reading your books in portrait mode is somehow much better than reading it in landscape mode because the pages seem more natural…
Interface & Menu
The Kindle DX’s interface hasn’t improved much from its predecessor. It basically works but could be streamlined a bit. The Home button is still the best way to restart your navigation process. And the five-way directional toggle moves you through the menus. Previous Page and Next Page buttons, as before, are designed along the right-hand side of the device, but there are no page navigation controls on the left which is present on the old versions. But since typing isn’t often required, that’s not a huge problem. Also, since there’s room for a keyboard, it is suggested that there should be one-button access to the Kindle store. With the DX reader model, you have to navigate through the menu system to access it.
Another key improvement is the addition of an accelerometer. This lets you view documents, photos, and charts in landscape mode. In fact, the device even works upside down, so that lefties can use the page navigation keys with their left hand. Typing on the QWERTY keyboard upside down is much, much more difficult, though.
Organize and Navigate!
While the device is absolutely great in its functions, its weakness actually lies in its features that have to do with notes, organization of PDF files as well as navigation features. PDF files will simply be labeled with their page number and the reader will not be able to name them just like placing a bookmark in electronic books. Another thing to note would be the fact that you cannot take notes or merely highlight texts in the PDF files. Navigation is also difficult because it is limited. You will not be able to follow links just like in the “Table of Contents” portion.
E Ink – What Is It? – Electronic Ink is actually a great feature that is incorporated with many of the electronic book readers that we have today. Likewise, the E Ink Pearl that the Kindle DX has is actually an amazing feature. With the E Ink technology, the contrast of the device is pretty awesome and therefor your eyes get used to the screen as if you were looking at pure paper. E Ink technology also consumes lower amounts of battery (a huge advantage of course) because you can keep reading your favorite book hours over hours…
This device supports the same assortment of file formats as the Kindle, including AZW, TXT, Audible, HTML, Doc, JPEG, GIF, and PNG. Files can be transferred via the micro USB cable or sent through Amazon’s Whispernet service. For the latter, all you have to do is send the file as an attachment to your e-mail address and within minutes, the file will appear on your DX. The cost is $0.15 per megabyte. For large files, transferring is a better solution. The DX also adds native PDF and RTF files, which are support, to the Kindle. Although the previous model has been able to display PDF’s, this support was experimental. Loading some of my own PDF documents resulted in dissatisfaction. PDF’s seemed a bit washed out but were legible.
Like the Kindle 3, the DX comes with a built-in EV-DO modem for online purchasing and downloading books and other digital content. It worked quickly and seamlessly on my tests. Because I tested the old model a few months back, I was able to access all the books I bought through the Kindle store on the DX. That is very much synchronized.

The Amazon ebook reader is certainly an amazing e-book reader that would perfectly suit each and every bookworm of today´s society. Despite having a few limitations, the advantages of the ereader outweigh the cons by far. I personally love reading books via this device and I highly recommend it to anyone, who´s passion is to consume loads of words in their free time! It really alters your reading experience completely… just try it out for yourself!
With rumors of the development of large-format colour readers from Apple, TechCrunch, and others, it’s hard not to look at this big display and want to see color. But the bigger display on the DX makes me want to see more with it. Also, keep in mind that for $100 less, you can get a netbook as the ASUS EeePC 1000HE with a colour screen, a more comfortable keyboard, and richer Web-browsing experience.
The larger screen is great for viewing Word documents or PDF’s, but a lightweight, low-cost notebook will do that and much more. Nevertheless, for reading books, the Kindle is still the best E-Book reader
If you have the old versions of the Kindle then you must be aware that there are improved features that are incorporated in this device. The features that are included in the newest version of the Kindle actually make the device so much easier to use as well as a great tool for reading electronic books. If you already have the Kindle 2 then you might as well consider getting the DX model because there are a lot of features that you will surely love.
